An exploration between stone, geometry, and textile craftsmanship

On the occasion of a collaboration with the Augusta gallery, Maison Tahissa a gallery publishing rugs since 2018 presents the exhibition ‘Trames & Matières.’ A unique artistic encounter where two visual worlds intersect with the history and craftsmanship of the rug.

At the heart of this space dedicated to the decorative arts where the dreams of Eastern carpets, from Persia to the edges of India, intertwine time seems suspended. Among the ancestral weaves of Flanders and the Gobelins, the works of the invited artists slip into this setting, weaving a vibrant dialogue between the memory of the material and the poetry of the pattern.

The French artist Nicolas Jourdier has been exploring the richness of the mineral world since childhood a passion passed down by his grandfather. His work consists of elevating rare, natural stones that he carefully selects to create unique sculptural pieces. Sometimes intertwined with bronze or enhanced by the brilliance of gold, these stones reveal their facets, textures, and energy, transforming raw material into singular works of art.

Alongside him, Benjamin Plé, a contemporary artist trained at the Met de Penninghen art school, develops a body of work rooted in geometry and structure. Through painting, ink, and bas-relief sculpture, he creates works in which lines and curves intertwine. By playing with reflections and depth, his creations captivate the eye and unsettle our sense of perception. It is a true invitation to contemplation.

By bringing together these two artistic approaches, the exhibition offers an exploration of the relationships between volumes, lines, and textile patterns. These works intertwine with the gallery’s rugs and tapestries, revealing an unexpected alchemy between the rigidity of stone, the precision of geometric forms, and the richness of woven motifs. Faithful to its mission of fostering a dialogue between tradition and contemporary creation, Maison Tahissa thus continues its commitment to showcasing textile heritage while opening its gallery to new forms of artistic expression.
